Biography

Attorney Charles (Chad) R. Walker, Jr., is a partner at Regan Atwood P.A. Chad handles construction, business, and real estate litigation in the Regan Atwood offices in Orlando, Florida, and Jacksonville, Florida.

Chad has practiced law in Florida since 2001, and is Florida Bar Board Certified in construction law.

Chad has served as lead counsel in multimillion-dollar legal disputes for Florida, regional and national clients in complex construction, commercial and real estate disputes in state and federal courts and in arbitration.

“Achieving board certification is one of the more important accomplishments in my experience as an attorney,” Chad said. “It’s a recognition from my peers that I’m an expert in the field of construction law, and that I have the knowledge and experience to call myself a specialist in that practice area.”

Chad works primarily on construction cases for national, regional and local general contractors, site work contractors, multi-family builders, and trade subcontractors (electrical, plumbing, roofer, etc.), as well as condominium associations and developers. Chad enjoys working with a wide range of clients.

“I think we’re a blue collar law firm,” Chad said of Regan Atwood. “We’ve got pickup trucks in the driveway, we’ve got guys who fish, we’ve got a former general contractor, and I’m a football coach. We relate to people who are hard-working, dedicated, honest. Just practical and self-made.”

Chad explained that anybody who’s been through litigation recognizes that it’s a very challenging process. It’s long, it can be frustrating at times, and you have to navigate a lot of unexpected circumstances.

“Litigation is at so many times unpredictable,” Chad said. “Clients have to make tough business decisions, not just litigation strategy decisions, but practical decisions that will impact the bottom line of their business, that can impact their employees.

“In our role as counselor, the advice often times isn’t to aggressively move forward to trial. If there’s an opportunity to resolve a case in a way makes sense, you might have to do that. Especially if that allows you to go back to the business of making money and taking care of your employees.”

As part of his service to the construction community, Chad produces “Managing the Risk,” a podcast focusing on compelling, risk-related issues that affect the construction industry. The podcast is available on Stitcher, Google Play, and Apple Podcasts.

Chad’s history with partner Jeff Regan dates back to the first year of Chad’s practice.

“When I graduated from law school I went to work for a fantastic commercial litigation boutique firm, and one of the partners there was Jeff Regan,” Chad said. “Within the first year, I really started to gravitate towards Jeff, who quickly became my mentor.

“Jeff’s practice was construction law, and it was exploding. So, I started working with him on those cases and, lo and behold, I discovered I really loved it.”

Chad and Jeff teamed up as partners in 2006 as founding shareholders of Regan Zebouni & Walker, P.A. In 2011, Chad relocated to Orlando and joined a business trial group. There, Chad was lead counsel on a range of business litigation and construction litigation matters.

Chad rejoined Jeffrey C. Regan and F. Eugene Atwood as a partner in 2015. Today, the team works together on a variety of construction, business and real estate cases brought to Regan Atwood P.A. for resolution.

“For me it’s all about educating the client upfront, making sure they understand the legal process in practical terms,” Chad said. “They want to know how it will impact them, impact their business.”

“Really being able to boil down what they can expect in the litigation process, to the extent we can predict it, and presenting it back to them in a way that is understandable for a person who doesn’t have legal experience. That’s what I like to do to help clients navigate the litigation process.”

Why I Became an Attorney

I wanted to be an attorney for as long as I can remember. Some family friends would jokingly suggest it was because I was argumentative as a child. One family friend in particular had a daughter the same age as me, and when we were little kids we would sit in the back of the car and get in these lengthy debates about almost anything. We drove our parents nuts on long car rides.

My grandfather on my Mom’s side was a big influence on my decision to pursue a career in law. Even though he wasn’t a lawyer, he was extremely knowledgeable about the law. He was in public service, and on many occasions he would be sitting in a room with lawyers and seemed to know more about the law than they did.

From the minute I started law school I felt like I was home. I was where I was supposed to be, and this is exactly what I’m supposed to be doing.

Interests

Chad is heavily involved in football, both as a parent and as a volunteer coach. Chad first began coaching when his son took an interest in flag football. Father and son eventually moved on to tackle football, and Chad now coaches at the high school level and on his son’s Pop Warner team.

Chad is the JV Defensive Backs Coach at Dr. Phillips High School and the Defensive Backs Coach for the Ocoee Pop Warner Pee Wee team. Chad is also a second-generation Florida Gators fan and is raising his son to continue the Gator tradition.

After his wife was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s disease, Chad and his wife became active members and advocates of the Parkinson’s community. Chad and his family support the critical work done by The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, holding and participating in fundraisers for Team Fox since 2014. In 2017, Chad and his wife ran the New York City Marathon as members of Team Fox.
